50 Years Ago This Week – 1973

Fifty years ago this week in 1973, a special meeting was held with local athletic directors and school administrators to discuss the possibility of merging the Auglaize County League and Mercer County League for athletics. Interested schools attending the meeting and discussing the merger included New Bremen, New Knoxville, Minster, and Wapakoneta St. Joe from Auglaize County and Fort Recovery, Marion Local, Mendon-Union, Parkway and St. Henry from Mercer County.

25 Years Ago This Week – 1998

Twenty-five years ago this week in 1998, the local track and field season got underway as the St. Marys’ girls’ track team placed sixth overall in their division at the Lady Tiger Classique in Versailles. Roughrider freshman Rachael Knous had a banner day for the Blue and Gold as she won the mile run with a time of 5:37 and also placed first in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:05, both marks of which set meet records. In the lower division, the Minster girls took first place overall, while the New Bremen Cardinals finished in second place on the day.

10 Years Ago This Week – 2013

Ten years ago this week in 2013, St. Marys senior basketball standout Garet Fledderjohann scored nine points, and teammate Austin James tallied eight points in the District 8 all-star game, in the Division I-II-III matchup. Their West team fell in the end however, to the East by a final of 9863. In the Division IV all-star matchup, Minster’s Adam Niemeyer and Devon Poeppelman scored nine and four points respectively, while New Bremen’s Luke Schwieterman tallied three counters and New Knoxville’s Jake Allen had two points in helping to lead the West to a 101-82 triumph.
